Knowledge is Power
Welcome! This website was created by students at Edward A. Reynolds West Side High School participating in the W!SE: Quality of Life Innovations Project. Our goal is to empower students with knowledge that will equip them to make healthier choices. One problem identified is a lack of nutrition education in New York City in curriculum.
Knowledge Meets Curiosity
The lack of nutrition education within school health curriculum has increased our youth's future for developing long-term illnesses. Schools fail to educate children on what matters: their future health. While some schools promote healthy eating many spend less than 15 hours a year on nutrition education. Schools require that students take a health class to learn about diseases and symptoms. What students do not learn is how easily diseases can be prevented with a healthy diet. It is time for schools to do more for their children's future health.
Help to fight the good fight
The link between diet and long-term illness has already been made. A poor diet may lead to the development of health issues. (Examples include but are not limited to cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and cancer.) Exposure to unhealthy foods and drinks is at an all time high. Schools must educate students of the affect their food choices may have on their well-being.
